Good news! Each time you've had guarapo with your Cuban frita, the sugarcane juice was probably lowering your total cholesterol. The juice can also improve sexual performance and increase sex drive when consumed with regularity.

Sugarcane juice and sex? Yes.

Two months ago, Edwin de los Santos and Karen Franco opened Guarapo Organic Juice Bar on NE 79th Street. The store sells smoothies blended with fresh sugarcane juice, in addition to pressed juices such as carrot, kale, ginger, and wheatgrass.

The best news? Juices are priced at less than $6. Some even go for $5.

In short, there's a new juicebar in Shorecrest where you can buy affordable love potions made with caña de azúcar.

Asked why the couple decided to open in Shorecrest, Franco offers a simple explanation. "79th Street is growing a lot and we live around here. We wanted to do the juice bar in our very own neighborhood," she says.

The shop offers juices (small $5, large $6) such as the Brickell Cleanse -- ginger, lemon, beet, apple, and aloe -- or the SoBe Greens, packed with kale, green apples, lemon and cucumber.

Kale juices may be too intense for some, so Franco suggets adding guarapo to lessen the green flavor.

Smoothies start at $7 bucks. These include varieties like Amazonic, with pineapple, papaya, banana, and coconut water. There's another drink called Radiant Skin, made with papaya, acai, almond milk, flaxseed oil, and collagen. Boost your smoothies with carnitine, glutamine, or coconut oil.

The shop sells vegan cupcakes by local bakery Bunnie Cakes and hopes to start selling healthy wraps and sandwiches soon.
