We all know we *should* eat local, shop local and spend our money with local purveyors whenever possible. Some people, however, take this civic duty more seriously than others, refusing to sample your mouthwatering Christmas cookies unless the flour was milled within a 100-mile radius.

For these locavores in your life, you'll want to make sure your gift screams South Florida. Here are five local gift ideas locavores will go bananas for (but ixnay on the ananabays, 'cuz they're not local).

CSA Subscription

CSAs are like the Holy Grail for locavores. Weekly boxes boasting the best in South Florida produce are always a welcome gift. Snag them a seasonal subscription to Teena's Pride or Little River Cooperative, and insure they'll have a fridge full of kale for the rest of the winter. Prices vary depending on share size.

Schnebly's Redland's Winery Wine

Nothing screams South Florida like wine made with fermented tropical fruit. After all, they're not likely to be sipping mango vino on a breezy patio in NYC in the dead of winter, now are they? Pick up a couple bottles of unique, Homestead-made fruit wines. Take your pick of guava, avocado, mango, lychee and lots more, all reasonably priced starting at around $13.95 a bottle.

Zak the Baker Bread

Bread might be the simplest gift going, but it's also one of the most utilitarian. Everyone loves a good loaf (save your gluten-free friends, but that's another story). Pop into their Wynwood shop and buy enough to fill a basket. Then hand deliver a lovely assortment of sourdoughs, and your friend will love you forever.

You-Pick Day at Knaus Berry Farm

There's nothing more locavorian than picking food with your own two hands. Gift your friend or loved one with a day of picking fruit at the strawberry capital of Florida: the iconic Knaus Berry Farm. Strawberry shakes, strawberry pies, strawberry shortcake for days.

Tickets to FEAST Miami

In addition to supporting Miami's local arts scene, FEAST Miami is a dinner series that features vegan, locally-sourced meals made by Chef Loren Pulitzer of Meals That Heal. the February edition is a brunch, taking place at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. In addition to other edibles, it'll feature samples from Bunnie Cakes, Badass Cookies, Tio Gazpacho, and more local companies. Tickets are a minimum $30 donation per person.
