Update: Following an abrupt closure due to permitting issues The Broken Shaker reopened Friday night while 27 Restaurant & Bar will resume dinner service Saturday, a spokeswoman said.

"Brunch will resume as normal next week," Caroline Sloan wrote in an email.

Despite recent glowing reviews from New Times and the Miami Herald, chef James Seyba on Thursday said he left the restaurant. That same day the eatery and the hugely popular adjoining bar were shuttered by the City of Miami Beach, according to the facility's website and an emailed statement.

Seyba declined to comment further.

A statement issued by General Manager Sebastian Dominguez on Thursday said, "Due to a permit issue, 27 and Broken Shaker are temporarily closed -- but will be back open very shortly. Please visit our website for updates."

Hernan Cardeno, Director of Code Compliance for the City of Miami Beach, explained that, "Neither the Broken Shaker nor 27 Restaurant and Bar have the necessary business tax receipts or certificate of use to operate."
