100 Montaditos, the chain imported from Spain, continues to grow in South Florida today with the opening of its fifth outpost on the ground floor of the Vizcayne building (244 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami).

As

part of its grand opening, the eatery will be having a

special promo for students. With

an ID,  they can enjoy dollar montaditos (small sandwich) every Monday during the

restaurant's debut month.

When

100 Montaditos first opened in Midtown in January 2011,

mini-sandwiches, Spanish beer and Wednesday Dollar-Mania were all the

craze. Shortly thereafter, the Spanish chain, which has over 250

restaurants in Spain alone, expanded to South Beach and South Miami. The

news of these tiny yet delicious, gourmet-like sandwiches reached

Broward and in May, Pembroke

Pines got its own 100 Montaditos.

Like all its other location, downtown's 100 Montaditos will feature Wednesday Dollar Mania where booze,

montaditos and everything else on the menu except platters and salads

are just a dollar.

The

menu is also getting an upgrade. There will still be 100 sandwiches to choose from, but some will feature

Iberian ham from free-range pigs. There will also be ham and

cheese platters along with more drinks including Cava,

sparkling wine from Catalonia.

And there are more montaditos coming.

Broward

will welcome its second location next week in Plantation, about

five minutes from Nova Southeastern University.  And although

an official date has not been set, the Coral Gables venue is expected to open around mid-August.

Plans to open in Brickell, on Lincoln Road, and in Kendall, Plantation, and Key

West are also underway.

"People

have been very welcoming to us," said Adriana Navarro, a

spokesperson for 100 Montaditos. "It's

a combination of factors. The ambiance and people love to hang out

with friends and have a drink. It's not only 'come and eat.' It's

about eating great food. You can taste different flavors at the same

time because our sandwiches are small, and you can share with

friends."

The chain also has plans to expand in the United States outside of South Florida,

mainly in the East Coast.

"We

are finishing up selecting locales. At the end of the year or

beginning of next year, we'll open our first place outside of South

Florida in Washington D.C.," Navarro said.

The mini-sandwich shop is also gaining popularity in Latin America and across Europe.

Colombia and Mexico has already been hit with montadito fever, and pans

to open in Brazil and Chile are currently in the works.

In

Europe, 100 Montaditos has reached Portugal and next year, the Netherlands,

Germany, England and France will welcome the Spanish chain.

"We

have more than 100 assigned locales in Latin America and Europe,"

said Navarro.

Although

it's all one chain, the menu varies by country.

"We

design our menus based on each country," said Navarro. "Maybe in

near future, we'll start to change menus from regions, but that's in

the future. We always have traditional [montaditos] like Serrano ham

and Iberic cheese."
