Who's playing in the Super Bowl again?

This week's issue of Miami Today, that venerable civic cheerleader, has a half-page ad sure to puzzle football fans. The ad promotes the paper's upcoming Super Bowl special section (stories about the game's economic impact, etc.)

Only problem — aside from a few editorial glitches (e.g., "....the immediate economic boost that the game give us") -- is that the ad's big color photo has nothing to do with the Super Bowl. Or even the National Football League.

Sure, the photo is of a quarterback dropping back to pass under pressure, but why is he holding a white-striped ball, National College Athletic Association standard issue? Maybe it's because the photo is of a Division I college game: Ohio State versus, apparently, Iowa State. No team logos are visible, but the Ohio State uniform is unmistakable to football fans.

The special section will profile "members of the community who are involved in hosting the game and in making sure that Miami appears in the best possible light." Hopefully, they know the difference between pro and college pigskin. -Rob Jordan
