If Miami were a lady, you wouldn't take her home to mom. No, unlike Chicago (who would make a good mother) or New York City (who is working on her doctorate) Miami is looking for something else. She's the kind of gal you'd meet for a Mojito, then promptly pull into the sack -- only to find nothing but a hoop earring, and the lingering scent of Chanel No.5 left in the morning.
So says a Dan Levy, founder of the online dating website Adultsonlylist.com. The young, Palo Alto-based entrepreneur recently conducted a survey of 20,000 women in seven major cities in order to understand the sexual behavior of singles ages 18 to 46. Levy had a theory: Women are growing more interested in "no-strings-attached-sex" and less in serious relationships. And he set out to test it.
Over a month, Levy asked female users of the site, essentially: How long does it take to get you naked? "This includes, but is not limited to, vaginal or anal intercourse," he wrote, "oral sex and mutual masturbation." Then he gave them three choices: Less than one date, at least two, or more than three. Of the nearly 4,000 Miami users surveyed, 37 percent answered they were down to get freaky before the first date had ended. That percentage was higher than all of the other six cities. (Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Washington DC.)
But don't call Miami a floozy -- at least not in front of Levy. He thinks of the numbers as a sort of AIDS-era-Summer-of-Love feminist compliment. "Being sexually free is becoming more accepted for women," he says. "The double standard is crumbling."
Or, maybe, it's more simple than that. "In warmer climates," he considers. "People wear less clothing."
