To say the web ties worlds together seamlessly with invisible streams of data would be a gross understatement. So New Times is celebrating Miami's greatest with our first annual South Florida Web Awards.
We've scoured online media from news, to arts and culture, to food and music, and Twitter and Instagram, Miami's finest have another opportunity to show the city their stuff.
You've already voted, and the tallies are in, but as we gear up for our sick celebration at Green Room this Saturday (which, you're invited to, by the way), we'll be rolling out intros to South Florida's nominees throughout the week.
News makes the world go 'round. Without it, we would live in a dull, boring, eventless world. Think of every headline you read or heard this week. Obama's re-election. Rush Limbaugh's an asshole. Allen West is a dunce. Do you really think you could live your life without subconsciously hearing about these things? It doesn't matter if you're interested in news or not. It's a bigger beast than you, and it happens wether you want it or not. News bloggers get it.
Naturally, the big dog of the Broward news scene, Broward Bulldog is a no bullshit kind of site. It specializes on politics, crime, and it's run by a handful of investigative reporters who've been in the biz since the dawn of time. Don't mess with the big dogs.
Here's looking at you, kid. Eye on Miami has a constant eye on the news scene in South Florida and beyond. The blog was awarded one of New Times' Best Of awards in 2008, and it's written by two chaps who live in their mothers' basements. Haha. Just kidding. We all know Miami is short on basements.
Bill Cooke is something of a breaking news god. He's an "amateur," but, like, not. The professional photographer is always bickering with the Miami Herald -- and even goes so far as creating fake front pages of their daily. See what we mean? He's a god. A god!
Peppered with gut-busting hysterical memes, GIFs, andm assorted photos, The Straw Buyer (that broke the camel's back) is an awesome daily news blog that prefers to keep things real. No bull. No frills. No nothing. Just hilarious commentary, facts, and GIFs. What. Is. Better?
Tim Smith has some major cojones. He claims Fort Lauderdale is his. Or, that's what his blog's title implies. Just kidding. Well, kind of. The point is, we completely admire the man who makes the city's news his own. Because gosh darn nit, if he doesn't, who will?!
Here to make us all feel like McDonalds-guzzling, pollution-causing, lazy asses with reckless abandon for that thing enviro people call "carbon footprints," Transit Miami just wants to make the world a better place. But since the task is a little daunting, they focus on making the world better by way of smarter urban planning, transit news, and overall hey-get-off-your-ass-and-make-miami-better news.

Miamians are ravenous about their sports teams. Whether they're fans of the Dolphins, the Marlins, the Canes, or the Heat, people love to read their professional (or otherwise highly questionable) expertise from animated bloggers. Miami sports bloggers bore Giancarlo's monster dongs, LeBron's Cobradick, and Tannehill's promise of being the next Marino.
Dolphins fans know where to get their shit. Game recaps, news, analyses, and reader-driven community blogs drive the site to Phin fan frenzies. For Phinsider, there is no off-season. They cover it all, all the time.
For those Dolphins fans who crave in-depth analysis from ravenous fans like themselves, Phin Phanatic is the place for them. From Draft Day analysis to player profiles, Phin Phanatic has the Dolphins covered.
Dick jokes. That's what Fins Nation uses to lure in Dolphins fans to their site. This is the kind of sports blog that relies on humor to make their point. If you can recall, the geniuses behind Fins Nation flew an airplane banner over the stadium that read, "Save our Dolphins. Fire Jeff Ireland" in 2011.
Those looking for a place to rant and rave about Al Golden's boys should look no further than allCanes. Everything a fan of the U wants is here. Apparel? Check. Cheerleaders pics? Check. Photos? Check. Overall badassery? Check.
The Miami Marlins may have run into some rough times lately, but Marlins Diehards are all over South Florida's ball club. A lot has happened in the off-season. And the Marlins Diehards have been there to offer topical commentary as well as a break-down to Giancarlo Stanton's latest monster dong.
