I think everyone can agree we need to reform health care in this country one way or another (if you don't, you're either greedy or not paying attention), and since the Democrats are currently in control, they're the ones taking a shot at it.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer put their heads together and wrote an opinion piece for USA Today in which they decided things such as "hanging in effigy one Democratic member of Congress in Maryland and protesters holding a sign displaying a tombstone with the name of another congressman in Texas" were un-American.
So Republican Party of Florida Chair Jim Greer decided to shout back with a "Nuh-uh, that's not un-American. Your big, dumb health-care plan is" press release.
Greer, though, doesn't seem to understand the health-care plan all that much and has a few questions for Pelosi and Hoyer, such as "Would the Democrat's health-care plan work to systematically 'increase birth intervals between pregnancies,' opening the very real probability of forced, taxpayer-funded abortions?"
You hear that? Nancy Pelosi is going personally abort all of your babies.
Naked Politics to asked Greer if he really believed we will have forced abortion in this country.
"Well, yeah... I do think this will provide an opportunity for certain medical procedures that many taxpayers would not be aware of and would not support. If the procedure is financed with taxpayer funds, then I believe the word 'forced' is appropriate," he says.
So, technically, what you're saying is no one will be forced to have an abortion but instead, taxpayers will be "forced" to pay for it. Way to be clear in choosing you words, Greer.
It's really nice to know that despite the fact that the cost of health care in this country is out of control, health-care debt is a leading cause of bankruptcy, and we're the only large, industrialized nation that doesn't in some way ensure all citizens have health coverage, all our politicos can talk about are burning effigies and forced abortions. Way to keep your eye on the ball, guys.
