Lincoln Road is basically a suburban mall in the middle of South Beach, and every suburban mall has that wing full of odd, sort of depressing stores. So it only makes sense that Ross Dress for Less is moving on to the strip.
Yes, according to Curbed Miami, Ross, the discount retailer for people who think Marshalls is just a bit too fancy, has put up signage signaling that it will open its second South Beach store on Lincoln Road. (The other is located in the Fifth and Alton complex.)
Though, the location won't be in the pedestrian mall proper. Ross will be taking over the under-reconstruction 230 Lincoln Road. That puts it between the giant CVS and tourist tchotchke shop Alvin's Island. It also puts it about a half block away from the Ritz-Carlton. Is there any other Ritz in the entire world in which guests will be able to leave their room and five minutes later be able to shop for discount underwear in a Ross? Probably not.
Indeed, according to a LoopNet listing, the building is up for rent with a scheduled opening in October. It's getting a facelift first and will end up looking something like this.
Honestly, the relatively un-fanciness of Washington Avenue and the surrounding block that cuts through South Beach is important both for providing stores and services for locals and keeping the beach from becoming a total billionaire playground.
Plus, a lot of people are really excited about scoring deals at Ross.
Still, the chain store-ification of South Beach continues unabated.
