After four years as head coach of the Miami Hurricanes, Al Golden has a 28-22 record, identical to the record compiled by Miami lifer Randy Shannon in his four years at the helm. Golden gets to stay on for at least another year, while Shannon was promptly showed the door. Fair? Probably not.

Whatever the case, Shannon's dismissal from the team means he apparently has no qualms about working for the enemy. He's now been named the associate head coach of the Florida Gators under new coach Jim McElwain.

Shannon will also serve as co-coordinator and linebackers coach. He spent the past two years in a similar role at Arkansas and also coached linebackers at Texas Christian.

"This group [including Shannon] has the knowledge, understanding, and experience recruiting and coaching in the South, the state of Florida, and the Southeastern Conference," McElwain said in a statement.

Though Shannon's on-the-field success was moderate, he was noted for his recruiting skills, a talent the Gators will undoubtedly exploit -- quite possibly at the expense of the Miami Hurricanes.
