Al Golden was hoping for one more coveted player to really make his inaugural recruiting class shine, but it appears that four star quarterback Jacoby Brissett of Palm Beach Gardens' Dwyer High will announce his intentions to play for the Gators instead this year. Brissett was one of those kids who wanted to stay in the spotlight a lil bit longer and didn't make his decision on signing day. Though his choice doesn't seem too ego driven: the Gators already picked up the number one rated QB in the recruiting class, while the 'Canes desperately needed some offensive firepower. Brissett's decision won't be known officially until tonight when announces before his high school's basketball game. Though, The Palm Beach Post is reporting that his mind is made up and he'll be in orange and blue, not orange and green next year. Wisconsin and Washington were also in the running.

Brissett was ranked the 9th best QB by Scout.com and the 25th best by ESPN. He'd be a big singing for most schools, but probably won't cause that much celebration in Gainseville. That's because the Gators already signed Jeff Driskel of Ovieda, Fl. He's rated by numerous recruiting services as the number one recruit in the class. Meaning, most likely, Brissett would have to battle it out with Driskel for the Gator's eventual starting spot.

Meanwhile the 'Canes wanted Brissett badly. Golden started recruiting him hard ever since he came in six weeks ago, and left a spot open for him on the roster. They didn't sign any other quarterbacks in the class, and didn't net much in the way of offensive firepower.

So, in some regards its an odd choice for Brissett (Scout reports Florida only had "medium" interest in him). Though rumors are rumors and there's always a chance he could change his mind.

Update: It's official. He's a Gator, and the 'Canes' class is QB-less. There may be some room to work with transfers, but as of right now that leaves Al Golden with Stephen Morris, Jacory Harris and AJ Highsmith (remember him?) as his only QB options next season.
