Last November, pro-life groups put a ballot measure before Colorado voters asking them if "personhood" should be extended to the moment of conception. Even in a politically heated and polarized year, voters rejected the amendment by 73 percent. But that hasn't stopped Personhood USA and the American Life League from trying to pass similar measures in other states, including Florida.
Personhood FL will kick off a petition drive today facing the Florida Supreme Court.
The new amendment would define even a newly formed embryo as a person. We're not sure of the implications if the amendment were to pass, but abortion foes hope it would legally equate abortion with murder. And, we suppose, that would mean any type of abortion, even if rape, incest, and health issues were involved.
