It was already clear that we wouldn't be getting Amar'e, but last minute rumors that The Heat might be landing Carlos Boozer from the Utah Jazz appeared to be unfounded.
"That was like, huh, what?'' Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor said this afternoon, according to the Deseret News.
So that means no trade action for The Heat this season, as the deadline for deals was 3 p.m. this afternoon. Though Boozer, like Stoudemire, will likely be available as a free agent this summer.
So now The Heat return their focus on keeping Dwyane Wade.
His injury last night apparently isn't too serious. A strained calf usually takes two weeks or more to heal, but the Heat seem optimistic that Wade will return sooner. The real question is if he'll return next year.
The Knicks are apparently in prime position to land two big free agents next year, and everyone seems sure that Wade and LeBron James are on the very top of their wish list. A number of other teams also look primed to capture a few big names in the off season.
Wade has made it clear he wants to stay. He totally wants to be to Miami basketball fans what Dan Marino was to football fans: a franchise player and a part of the community. Though, he doesn't want the rest of his career to play out like Marino's: championship-less. So The Heat will definitely be on the lookout for another big name.
They seem intent on developing the talents of Michael Beasley and keeping him on the roster, but the futures of players like Udonis Haslem, Mario Chalmers, Daequan Cook, Dorell Wright and Quentin Richardson are less certain. Don't be surprised if a couple of them don't come back next year, but hopefully fans will be too thrilled with a new acquisition to notice.
