Sometimes Riptide realizes how woefully white we are. Did you know papaya is basically the Cuban equivalent of pussy? We did not! Neither did Mitt Romney! So, perhaps that's why he ended up declaring his love for "papaya" at his recent Miami stop and was greeted with a bunch of snickers.

This past Monday, Romeny stopped by El Palacio de los Jugos, a Coral Way eatery owned by a convicted cocaine trafficker.

From Mediaite:

"They're waiting for you with a mamey and a guayaba -- Cuban fruits -- here in Miami, do you like those?" [host Carlos] Santana asked.

"I am a big fan of mango, papaya, and guava," Romney replied, to laughs from the host and the translator.

"There are mangoes there too." Santana added.

Yes, indeed, as many of our friends and Urban Dictionary tell us, papaya is slang for vagina. Suddenly so many things makes sense to us.

This isn't the first time Romney has slipped up in front of a Cuban crowd in Miami.

In 2008, while attending the Miami-Dade Lincoln Day dinner in Little Havana, a guayabera-clad Romney proudly used the quote, "Patria o muerte, venceremos!" which happens to be one of the favorite slogans of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.
