Last month, we did a little retrospective of our ten best covers of 2011, which included everything from our sex issue to urging for you to vote for Uncle Luke in the Miami mayoral election. Now we have the stamp of approval from the Society of Publication Designers who agrees our covers are awesome.

SPD released its picks for the ten best alternative newsweekly covers of 2011, as well as some honorable mentions, and two of our covers made the cut. Our October 27 issue, "Below the Belt", came in at number ten for as the best cover of 2011, while our May 11 cover, "Allen West: Nuttier, Feistier, Uncut", scored an honorable mention. Both were overseen by our former art director Pam Shavalier who left the paper last month after a decade.

Our new art director, Miche Ratto, formerly from our sister paper New Times Broward-Palm Beach, also got an honorable mention for his March 3 cover, "... Like Rabbits".
