When the clock strikes 12, recreational divers will be allowed to dive into the coasts off of Florida and hunt those delicious buds. The event precedes regular lobster season during which commercial fisherman will also be able to collect lobster. This year, Regular lobster season runs from August 6 to March 31.

Last year, only one diver died, though 2008 and 2009 saw four deaths each.

Officials will also be patrolling incoming boats with specially trained dogs. Divers are not allowed to take juvenile lobster or egg-baring females. Divers are also only allowed to bag more than 12 lobsters a day.
