Mike Scott is terrifying in his own right.

I haven't had a chance to watch all of Palin's speech in Estero earlier today, but by all accounts it was a huge "Is this Biraq Hussein guy a terrorist Just asking..." fest.

Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott said, “On Nov. 4, let’s leave Barack Hussein Obama wondering what happened.”

Hussein! The "H-Bomb"! This was enough to earn a rebuke from the McCain/Palin Camp:

"We do not condone this inappropriate rhetoric which distracts from the real questions of judgment, character, and experience that voters will base their decisions on this November.”

Apparently they do condone suggesting that Barry Hussein Obama Bin Laden "hangs around with terrorists." Those are the words of Mandy Connell, a SW Florida radio host who spoke at the event after Scott.

Palin herself hammered Obama on his loose connection to Bill Ayers, asking why Obama “didn't know a few months ago that he had launched his political career in the living room of a domestic terrorist?”

Of course this terrorist they speak of is now a distinguished professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, a public, taxpayer-funded school. Ayers never even did jail time, unlike Charles Keating.

So let's get this wonderful McCain logic correct. Mentioning someone's actual middle name? "Inappropriate rhetoric". Exploiting tenuous links to a some what controversial figure whose actions in the past put him under the broad definition of terrorist? Good ol' American truthfulness, you betcha.

Not that Scott's words were worse, but Lee County has a bit of a history with zany sherriffs. More on that after the jump.

A little bit of right wing nuttiness must be a pre-req for the job of Lee County's Sherriff. Sheriff John J. McDougall, who held the post in the 90's, was a certifiable right wing nutcase. This Times story about his anti-abortion tactics is just the tip of the iceberg. More recently he was convicted of trying to break into Terri Schiavo's hospice to try and give her water. Gee, Lee County, you sure know hot to pick 'em.
