All Urania Lot wanted was for her 18-year-old son to eat his sandwich in the dining room. When he refused to quit chomping in the living room, the 60-year-old Stock Island mom grabbed a hammer. And when threats of smashing the TV to bits didn't work either, Lot wailed on him with her fists and the tool, police say. She's under arrest now, charged with felony battery.
Monroe County Sheriff's deputies were called to Lot's mobile home on Stock Island -- the island just east of Key West -- around 11 a.m. on Monday.
Lot's son, Julio, was sitting on the front porch nursing a sore arm and battered head. He told the cops he and his mom "had been arguing over a sandwich."
When police interviewed Lot and her granddaughter, who'd watched the fight, both said that her son had been "belligerent" about taking his snack-time to another room. Lot allegedly hit him on the arm with the hammer, punched him in the head and bit his wrist.
"Urania was angry at Julio because he was eating a sandwich in the living room against her wishes," sheriff's deputies wrote in an arrest report. "She explained that Julio was verbally abusive and refused her requests to eat the sandwich at the table."
Lot faces one felony count of aggravated battery.
