Politicians, especially in today's political climate, are greeted with protesters all the time. It's part of the job, but no one wants to be picketed by a group of Holocaust survivors. Especially when they claim the politician never delivered on his promise. Well, Sen. Bill Nelson has saved himself and President Obama an embarrassing protest by finally filing legislation he had promised.
The Miami-based Holocaust Survivors' Foundation-USA had promised to picket tomorrow's fundraiser in Miami for the senator featuring the president. They claimed Nelson had promised three years ago to file a bill that would allow survivors to sue European insurance companies for unpaid life insurance claims. But he seemingly never got around to it.
Nelson claims he had been working on such a bill last month, but it's funny what a promise of bad publicity will do. According to the Miami Herald, Nelson has now filed the bill in an effort to keep his promise and avoid the protests. However, so far the White House has remained quiet on the issue and the planned protests.
