Kimberly Noelle Martin just wanted to use the bathroom, but the strong arm of Kangaroo Gas station attendants had different plans. Police were called by an observant Kangaroo employee who noticed Martin pulling into the station all Crazy Taxi-like with three kids in the backseat.
Martin later blew .210 on a breathalyzer (high enough to bat cleanup for the Marlins), and a search of her car would turn up pills hidden in a candy wrapper. But Martin can explain! It was all her mother-in-law's fault.
The trouble went down in Ocala last Saturday, when Martin, 26, pulled into the gas station like Tony Stewart looking for a tire change, slamming the brakes like there was no tomorrow.
The Kangaroo employee noticed a strong odor of alcohol and that Martin had three young kids in the backseat. The employee immediately called police, who removed the kids and gave Martin a breath test.
Martin admitted she'd been drinking, but then she fell back on the oldest excuse in the book: Her mother-in-law was to blame. Martin claimed her mother-in-law was actually driving on the way to bond her husband out of the pokey (where he was locked up for his own driving infraction).
But Martin says she argued with her mother-in-law, who screeched into the gas station and apparently disappeared into the night -- leaving Martin looking all guilty of stuff and whatnot.
As for the pills -- which turned out to be oxycodone -- Martin claimed that they were just for her husband and his back and that he had asked her to bring them with her.
Police didn't buy either story. Martin was booked and charged with DUI, possession of oxycodone, and tampering with evidence.
Let this be a lesson, kids. The Kangaroo gas station attendants are more than some Lotto-ticket-hawking pretty faces. They protect and serve.
