Unless Ana Maria Moreta Folch wanted the undisputed title of "worst neighbor ever," we're not sure what she was thinking. In any case, the woman clearly does not mess around.
After deciding she didn't like her neighbors, Folch hired a contractor to demolish their home.
The 62-year-old St. Johns County resident didn't like the sort of people living in the trailer home next to her place and suspected they had broken into her car. She somehow got a key to their home and, last Monday, hired a contractor to demolish it, according to the Florida Times Union.
She told the contractor that she owned the home and took him inside to show that no one lived there.
So the contractor got to work and tore the home to rubble.
Maria Gottfried, who owns the trailer but rents it out, returned to what was left and called police. She said she never had a problem with Folch but certainly hadn't given her a key. There were no tenants in the home at the time of the demolition.
Folch later told police that she thought her neighbors were "unsavory" and that she considered her action a "favor."
"I've been in law enforcement 27 years," police commander Chuck Mulligan told the New York Daily News. "And in today's society, I'm beginning to see more and more acts of what people would consider outrageous.
"Back then, crimes used to be more straightforward and not nearly as 'creative' as the things people come up with today."
Folch was arrested on charges of criminal mischief and was released Wednesday on $10,000 bail.
