Republican Congressman Cliff Stearns of Ocala is very interested in his Democratic colleague Anthony Weiner's alleged bulge pictures. More specifically, he's interested in making sure that members of congress are safe from cyber attacks and hacking. Stearns was on Bill O'Reilly last night and said, "The United States has a very small example with the Weiner example." Come on Stearns, lets be honest, that is a respectable size example.
If you're not up to date, a tweet addressed to a female college student linking to a picture of a man's erection inside a pair of boxer-briefs may or may not have been actually tweeted and quickly deleted from Rep. Weiner's Twitter account. Some think Weiner is a victim of a vast right wing conspiracy. Others think it's evidence of some sort of affair. Rep. Weiner thinks he was hacked, but can't say with "certitude" whether or not the picture in question is actually of him. Though, most agree that it's hilarious that congressman Weiner is now having to deal with a scandal quite literally involving his wiener.
Rep. Stearns though is taking the incident very, very seriously. He's written a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to investigate cybersecurity and make sure that smart phones belonging to members of congress are safe; he discussed the issue last night on Bill O'Reilly.
"Although this particular incident is a matter for law enforcement, it clearly indicates that hacking is a serious problem and as Chairman it would be appropriate for the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee to examine the issue of cybersecurity to protect our privacy and to ensure our national security," Stearns wrote in a letter to The Daily Caller.
Stearns also think that the House's sergeant at arms should look into the specific matter while he's addressing the larger issue of cyber security.
