Sorry, Miami. Las Vegas and New York are still America's favorite New Year's Eve destinations (at least for Americans who like making cheap hotel reservations online), but a list put out by Priceline.com claims five districts in the Miami area are amongst the top 50 destination for tourists traveling for the countdown to 2011. The rankings are determined by hotel bookings through the website which helps them determine individual areas where tourists are headed. Unsurprisingly, four of the five Miami areas listed are in Miami Beach.
"Because the survey is based on actual booking requests, and not on consumer preference polls or votes, priceline.com believes its annual survey is one of the more accurate predictors of New Year's travel trends," reads a press release. "Also, by focusing on hotels instead of airline tickets, the priceline.com survey is able to include the travel intentions of consumers who will drive to their destination."
The Las Vegas strip is apparently the hottest New Year's destination, but New York dominates the list with 11 areas listed, many near the top. South Florida has seven areas on the list, with five in Miami, and four of those on Miami Beach.
The Collins Avenue/Oceanfront of South Beach area was listed at 20, Ocean Drive came in at 22nd, "South Beach - Central" at 30, a generic Miami Beach at 40, and Downtown Miami at 45. The beach area of Ft. Lauderdale came in at 37, while Key West was at 47.
That's slightly down from last year when the Ocean Drive area was fourth on the list. You can view the full list here.
