Following her husband's arrest this weekend for domestic battery, Evelyn Lozada has broken her silence and released a statement to the media. Lozada, a star of VH1's Basketball Wives, had been married to Chad Johnson for only about five weeks before the incident.
Here's her full statement, via Entertainment Tonight:
"It is with great sadness and much trepidation that I release this statement addressing the domestic violence incident that happened this past Saturday. I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me, it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well. I'm grateful to my family, friends and fans for the outpouring of support during this difficult time."Johnson and Lozada got into an argument while driving back to their Broward County home. Lozada reportedly confronted Johnson about a receipt for condoms she found in his car, and the football star allegedly head-butted her. The attack left a three-inch laceration on her face.
The fallout for Johnson has been swift. He was released by the Miami Dolphins, and VH1 has shelved the upcoming reality show Ev and Ocho, which was to chronicle the newlyweds' life together.
Meanwhile, TMZ has released the tape of the 911 call that a neighbor made on behalf of Lozada.
"He's a very high-profile person," the neighbor says. "We want to keep this as quiet as possible... we don't need the news here."
