Remember those rumors and reports saying the Miami Dolphins were interested in acquiring Randy Moss after the Minnesota Vikings released him? There were even reports the Dolphins contacted Moss earlier this week. LIES! ALL LIES!!
The NFL's waiver deadline came and went at the 4 o'clock hour, and signs pointed to a Moss-Dolphins marriage (as dysfunctional as it might have been). Several teams ranked ahead of Miami in the waiver priority list sent out announcements that they would not be putting a claim in for Moss.
ESPN even reported at one point that it was going to come down to the Raiders and Dolphins.
Ten minutes passed, and finally ESPN reported that Moss was awarded to the Tennessee Titans. The Titans were ranked 22nd on the priority list -- four spots below the Dolphins. Which means the Dolphins didn't even bother to put in a claim for Moss.
So there you have it. Randy Moss would be a Miami Dolphin right now if only Jeff Ireland had put in a claim for him.
Fans have been divided over the prospect of Moss coming to Miami. Some say he's the vertical threat we so desperately need. Others argue he's a "locker room cancer" and a needless distraction.
If you're one of those that think there would be no harm in renting Moss for the remainder of the season, take solace. So we didn't get Randy Moss. But look on the bright side. It means we won't have to deal with him berating the team's catering services.
