We know half of the scribes in Miami have their pens waiting in anticipation for the day Fidel dies, but journalist Ann Louise Bardach, author of Cuba Confidential, has gone ahead and written a whole book on the subject. The Daily Beast has the exclusive first excerpts from Without Fidel: A Death Foretold in Miami, Havana and Washington that offers a peak into his health.
In the excerpt she labels Fidel's extended exit "The Fideliad," but puts to rest any lingering Cancer rumors. Instead, he has "malignant diverticulitis." Bardach writes, "When a second, life-saving surgery necessitated a colostomy, he wept."
To do a bit of a background on Bardach we ran her name through Babalu blog and came up with "usual Castro parrot" and "a leftwinger who writes for Vanity Fair." So maybe she's not the most trusted scribe amongst el exilio, but the book does offer interviews with Orlando Bosch and Luis Posada Carriles.
The book hits stores October 6, and the preview also promises answers to, "What led to the lightning-bolt purge of key Cuban officials in March 2009? Who will be Raúl's heir?" and "Will the U.S. embargo end now?"
