Bicyclist Hit on Rickenbacker Causeway in Critical Condition

A cyclist was hit on the Rickenbacker Causeway and remains in the hospital in critical condition. The incident occurred yesterday near the Rusty Pelican restaurant.

The Miami Herald reports that a BMW hit the cyclist, but Local 10 has pictures of a dark-green Jeep SUV with a dented windshield that was involved in the crash. The incident was not a hit-and-run.


Police have not released the male victim's identity.

The man suffered a head injury and was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

No charges have yet been filed.

The accident is just the latest involving a cyclist and a car to occur on the causeway that connects Key Biscayne to mainland Miami.

In February, 36-year-old Aaron Cohen ;died after being the victim of a hit-and-run. Police arrested the driver, Michele Traverso

In December 2010, cyclist Christophe LeCanne was killed after he was hit by a car driven by aspiring singer Carlos Bertonatti. The driver was drunk at the time and drove off after hitting the cyclist.
