Your Amazon packages could start arriving even sooner. The company has signed a lease to open a 335,841-square-foot warehouse and distribution center in Doral. That will bring about 500 news job to the area, and there's even talk of Amazon opening an actual brick-and-mortar store in the area.
Amazon only physically entered Florida earlier this year by opening a distribution center Ruskin, Florida, in the Tampa Bay area. Though, due to Florida law that meant that Floridians had to start paying sales tax on their purchases.
The trade-off, however, is faster package delivery. South Florida Business Journal reports that the company noticed that many South Floridians started demanding same-day delivery. A fulfillment center in the area means that will be an available option.
The new location will be opened at 1900 NW 132nd Place. A time frame has not yet been set to open the center.
However, stranger still is that according to SFBJ at least one local business has heard that Amazon is opening a physical store in the area.
"They're doing a huge distribution facility, [but] they're also opening up a brick-and-mortar store," Ken Krasnow, managing director for CBRE South Florida, said according to the business paper.
This news comes just a few months after Amazon announced that it would be opening its first ever brick-and-mortar store in New York City.
"Amazon's space ... would function as a mini warehouse, with limited inventory for same-day delivery within New York, product returns and exchanges, and pickups of online orders," reports the Wall Street Journal of the company's NYC store.
A location for the Miami store has not yet been determined.
