With last week's Supreme Court decisions on gay marriage, Lady Gaga sensed an opportunity to get some free publicity once again publicly support the gay community by singing the national anthem at a New York City Pride kick-off event. Though, she noticeably changed the line "home of the brave," to "home for the gay."
South Florida Tea Party creature Allen West sensed an opportunity to get some free publicity stand up for liberty and traditional values by slamming Gaga for the lyric chance.
Here's Gaga's rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner":
The former congressmen called the lyric chance "reprehensible" on a post on his Facebook page:
Having served in the US Army for 22 years alongside some very brave men and women, I find Lady Gaga's defiling of our National Anthem reprehensible. We are the land of the free because America has always been the home of the brave from Lexington and Concord to Kandahar. This young lady should be taken to Ft. McHenry and given a history lesson as to why Francis Scott Key wrote those words incredible words. In this week where we remember the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg and the 237th anniversary of our Independence is further evidence of the level of ignorance and disrespect some have for our national character. She and all those who cheered her abomination should be ashamed and apologize to every serving and retired member of our Armed Services. But perhaps I ask too much...
Of course, we're just scratching our heads wondering exactly how Lady Gaga's rendition of the national anthem at a gay pride event even came to Allen West's attention in the first place, but we guess when you're not serving in congress anymore, you've got a lot of free time on your hand to click around on the Interwebs to find things that piss you off.
Wait until he find out what Christina Aguilera did to the national anthem at the Super Bowl that one time. Maybe it's just best if no one tells him about that Lana Del Rey song.
