In a brazen crime that should send shivers down the spines of bottle-service-loving bros and depressed, rich housewives everywhere, $1.1 million worth of premium vodka was stolen last month from a warehouse in northwest Miami-Dade.
The booze heist went down June 22. According to NBC Miami, a group of men showed up at a warehouse full of merchandise waiting to pass customs with a car, van, and truck. The thieves knew exactly what they were looking for and bore a hole in the wall right where the vodka was stored.
Over the course of about five hours, they loaded 752 cases of the stuff into the vehicles and took off.
But this wasn't just any vodka. It was Spirits of the Tsars Golden Vodka, which retails for up to $300 a bottle (and more than $1,000 in some clubs). The Ukraine-made spirit sports a label made with 24-karat gold and, unlike most vodkas, features a golden hue. The pricey spirit is made in limited quantities, so the heist is a serious blow to the supply chain in America.
Authorities are asking for tips that could lead to the arrests of the perpetrators and are offering a $5,000 reward. Anyone with information is asked to call 786-629-2022.
As for the company that produces the vodka, it's at least getting some good PR out of it. It has, of course, issued an official news release about the heist.
