“We will finally achieve the Desired Effect,” Brandon Flowers wrote in a Magic Marker note recently posted to his official website. “Ariel and I have been collaborating in the studio, working twogether in the spirit of conversation, contention, and at long last, sweet contrition. No one has yet seen or heard the change. But soon, we all will.”

What the hell is the Killers frontman talking about? His new solo album, the aforementioned Desired Effect, which he has been recording with producer Ariel Rechtshaid, who’s also handled studio duties for other stars like Madonna, Beyoncé, Vampire Weekend, Sky Ferreira, and Haim.

This record will actually be Flowers’ second solo effort. He released his debut, Flamingo, in 2010. And no, the Killers haven’t split. The singer’s just taken the last couple of years to focus on his family and some alone time in the studio.

The new album will be released on May 18, and then Flowers will be taking it on the road. The Desired Effect tour begins in late July before arriving in South Florida at the Fillmore Miami Beach on August 19.

Now if you want to “hear the change” of which Mr. Flowers speaks, we’ve got good news: he, Live Nation, the Fillmore, and New Times are offering up free tix. Just check below for contest instructions.
