Yesterday, we at New Times suggested that Ultra 2015 “blew its surprise superstar load” when Usher crashed Martin Garrix’ headlining set on the Main Stage. But we have to apologize a bit to the UMF folks. They have way more loaded in their pop-star canon than we thought.
Just now, Ariana Grande blindsided Ultra's Worldwide Stage when she joined frequent collaborator Cashmere Cat for a special two-song showstopper. The camera phones were out as the duo showered fans in world-class cuteness with “Be My Baby” and “Adore.”
It’s a wonder we didn’t see this coming as the Boca-raised pop star headlined the American Airlines Arena last night. The blonde-haired Norwegian producer also played his crossover hit “Party Girls,” featuring Ludacris, Jeremih, and Wiz Khalifa. The cutest moment was between songs when Grande put her kitty ears on the producer, and everybody was like, “Awww.”
The sudden appearance comes in the lead up to rumors that Justin Bieber and other surprise guests may be on the way. With Usher and Grande under our belts, it’s already shaping up to be the poppiest Ultra ever.
Update Indeed, the Biebz showed up for the final night of Ultra 2015, helping close out the fest with Skrillex, Diplo, and Diddy.
