Frontman J.D. Wilkes has always thought of fiery Pentecostal preachers as true Southern punks, what with their charismatic showmanship and fear-for-your-lives ranting. Manifest that philosophy in a rail-thin body weighing in at, oh, about a buck ten, leaping about stage as he baptizes the crowd with his sweat and some bottled water, and you get Th' Legendary Shack-Shakers. Although not quite legendary yet, they are doing their best to live up to the adjective as they criss-cross the nation (and now the world) with their devilish Penta-caustic road show of Southern gothic via blues, punk, gospel, country and balls-to-the-wall live performances. Using murder ballads, funeral marches, and old-style honky-tonk foot stompers with a whole lot of snake water and moonshine mixed in, the Shack Shakers will yet convert you (and maybe pervert you) if you haven't already signed up for their late-night worship services.
