The West Palm foursome has been almost singlehandedly spreading South Florida's indie rock message, playing every music festival imaginable, including SXSW, CMJ, and even ATP's Nightmare Before Christmas. In fact, this crew may be the hottest white-boy thang to come out of SoFla since Vanilla Ice.

Still, these crackers stay true to their roots, performing around these parts as often as humanly possible. And October 14, the Surfer Blood boys will be playing free show at Bayfront Park as part of the DWNTWN Miami Concert Series, alongside Spam Allstars' funky Latin fusion and Ketchy Shuby's soulful reggae.

Last year, Surfer Blood released its debut album, Astro Coast, to the delight of the music nerd elite. Pitchfork even gave it an honorable mention on its 2010 Albums of the Year list.

Later this month, the band's new EP, Tarot Classics, will be out on Warner Brothers Records. And if it launches the quartet even deeper into the universe of extreme rock stardom, we DWNTWN-ers will be able to brag forever about seeing Surfer Blood for free on the eve of becoming superduperfamous.

Surfer Blood with Spam Allstars and Ketchy Shuby as part of the DWNTWN Miami Concert Series. Friday, October 14. Bayfront Park, 301 N. Biscayne Blvd., Miami. The show starts at 6 p.m. and admission is free. Sunset happy-hour food and drinks are also available to enhance your outdoor musical experience. Visit dwntwnmiamiconcertseries.com.
