Here's more in immediately useful news over the next few days if you're into this sort of thing. As we've mentioned here, the Vagabond has its own events planned every night of this week, with Phish afterparties starting tonight. If you're in town for the show and are the traveling-for-music-festivals type, you may already be familiar with these acts, who tend towards the electronic side of the jam spectrum.... But for the rest of us, here's a run-down of the week's spread of parties. If you're put off by the jammy connotations, try to dispel the preconceived notions, because many of these acts are more experimental-but-danceable laptop/synth acts than anything. Here's the spread of the club's Phish afterparties and events beyond.
Tonight, Monday, December 28: Orchard Lounge
There's nothing stereotypically hippie-ish about this Chicago trio, who describe themselves on their MySpace page as "downtempo, space disco, house, tech, b-boy-era electro, hip-hop, soul, and funk." Not sure how Orchard Lounge got lumped into the jam circuit thing, considering they list people like Cybotron and Dilla as influences -- oh wait, I caught the Disco Biscuits in that list. But let's not split hairs, just enjoy. Their show tonight at the Vag starts at 10 p.m. and costs $12 at Wantickets. Here's a video from this year's Camp Bisco.
Tuesday, December 29: Aquaphonics
Tuesdays at the Vagabond are for the weekly party Stone Groove, and it's still going on December 29. It's just keeping with the spirit of both the usual party, and this special-event week, by featuring a jammy kind of act but still keeping it local. Tonight meet Aquaphonics, a Stuart-based act who lists as influences more traditionally guitar-based, funky acts like Galactic and Medeski, Martin & Wood. No special ticket prices are listed for this one so it may be a freebie.
Wednesday, December 30: Particle
More "livetronica" from one of the original acts of the genre, Particle. Thank these guys for helping to invent the sound along with the Disco Biscuits and STS9. Wednesday kicks off a two-night stand by the band at the Vagabond; tickets for this show cost $15. Here's an old video of the band collaborating with Joe Satriani and DJ Logic. It requires a little patience to get into.
Thursday, December 31: Particle returns, and New Year's Eve Party
New Year's Eve features a second show by Particle, plus resident DJs from the club's various nights, like Ray Milian, Ryan Evans, and A-Train. Doors open at 10 p.m. and tickets are a cheap $25, but drinks are on you, there's no open bar at this one.
Friday, January 1: Life of Seals
Business goes back to usual with Fridays at the Vagabond, this time featuring local electro-pop-ish act Life of Seals.
Saturday, January 2: Back Door Bamby
Billed as a party in which "The Bitch Recovers," again, business goes back to post-holidays "normal" here.
