Celebrity is a funny thing. It can open some pretty glamorous doors while simultaneously shutting a dozen more. Once a famous person is known for one specific thing, it’s hard to change the public’s mind.

Nothing could be truer when it comes to pornography. Your job in porn is to get it, give it, or somewhere in between — the latter often meaning something quite literal. Such is the case with Sasha Grey. Over the course of her short career, she appeared in more than 300 adult films, winning multiple awards for her willingness to perform extreme sex acts on video. During the last few years, however, Grey has been separating herself from her raunchy porn past by building a solid reputation as a force in the music industry. As a DJ and vocalist, including a stint in the band aTelecine and collaborations with Israeli psych-rock outfit Infected Mushroom, Grey has steadily cut her teeth in the EDM circuit.

This Friday, she brings an eclectic set to Miami’s Bardot. If her recent mixes are any indication, Grey loves it all: disco, house, and R&B. By all accounts, she gives it her all when it comes to music. She’s an avid fan of vinyl and sounds that transcend her 28 years. It’s been a while since she retired from the adult industry and it’ll always be a challenge to shed any stigmas about her former career, but perhaps that’s just the kind of drive an artist needs to put on a solid party that makes us forget about everything but the music.

Sasha Grey. 10 p.m. Friday, July 1, at Bardot, 3456 N. Miami Ave., Miami; 305-576-5570; bardotmiami.com. Tickets cost $20 to $30 via showclix.com
