¡Mayday! has been gearing up for the release of its latest album Stuck On An Island for the past year or so. According to the group, the album is an ode to making music in Miami and feeling separated from the rest of the music scene.
Originally slated for a fitting May 2010 release, Stuck On An Island was pushed back to this October 12. To celebrate the long-awaited release, the crew is preparing an amazing release party at Transit Lounge this Saturday.
One of ¡Mayday! vocalists, Wrekonize told Crossfade, "This is by far the most ambitious show we've ever planned. The stage is bigger and the atmosphere will be bigger. We are all fans of incredible live show theatrics and this is the closest we've come to what we want to be doing."
You also have the Lords Of The Fly mixtape that the band released recently. Filled with twenty or so new and classic tracks, plus remixes, the mix is tied together by a series of skits that detail a fictional plane crash on an island off the coast of Miami. Sixty passengers perished, but all six members of ¡Mayday! survived. However, they're nowhere to be found.
One of the tape's musical highlights is a 2010 reworking of Mayday's independent buzz single "Groundhog Day," which has been remixed with all new verses and guest spots from local emcee Ghostwridah as well as Lil Wayne associate Mack Maine. And speaking of Weezy, the ¡Mayday! boys also included three Wayne remixes.
Overall, Lords of the Fly is proof that ¡Mayday! has matured, perfecting the ability to balance live music and synthesizers while teetering between all-out rap lyrics and harmonized choruses and bridges.
