The roof is on fire, party people. Or it will be at Jazid this Friday. And Rock Master Scott and the Dynamic Three will have had nothing to do with it (or anything else in the last 25 years, for that matter). The culprits responsible for said act of arson and the subsequent conflagration? Lanzallamas Monofonica, naturally. I mean, their name means monophonic flamethrower. Who the hell else would it be?

Besides, if you aren't familiar, theirs is a rather combustible sound--a delicious blend of Latin-flavored, high energy, danceable grooves and world beats with rock and folk underpinnings that make it all but impossible not to shake your ass. And they perform in not only Spanish, but English, Portuguese and even a bit of Serbian. So even if you're not Hispanic, you can still enjoy the show. And your conversations at the club won't have to resemble this:

Stranger: Te gusto el grupo?

You [spoken in gringo Spanish]: Si! Soy muy picante.

Stranger: Eh...si. Supongo que si.

You: Y el queso...que rico!

Stranger: Como?

You: Esta viejo y podrido?

So head on out to Jazid this Friday and celebrate the third anniversary of this killer local act. There's even a note on their MySpace inviting musicians to bring their toys for the last set's jam. Hope I can get my high school band trombone through the door....

Lanzallamas Monofonica performs on Friday, August 21 at 10pm at Jazid (1342 Washington Ave). No cover.
