Ballin' with Hova and Becks...

For the past year, former fútbol star and underwear model David Beckham has been working to bring Major League Soccer to Miami.

It's been an absolute soap opera, with starts, stops, schmoozing, recriminations, failed stadium site proposals at Port of Miami and Museum Park, worries that Miami has blown its shot at an MLS team, and finally, last month's reassurance from Miami Beckham United reps that "the reality is that everything is progressing very well."

But now, the latest rumor... Jay Z might invest $100 million in Beckham's team.

Despite the stadium snafus and the project's seemingly stalled momentum, Beckham's investment group has continued to insist that "Miami is still David's number-one choice and it will happen. The fans and the people of Miami are behind us and we hope to announce some positive and exciting news soon."

However, local politicians, including Miami Commissioner Marc Sarnoff and Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, have claimed that no progress has been made for months.

So maybe recruiting Jay Z, a hip-hop icon and ex-owner of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets who's lately dabbled in sports management with Roc Nation Sports, could be an attempt to reboot Miami Beckham United's bid for professional fútbol in South Florida.

The rumor of the rapper's involvement originally emerged after a report by British tabloid Daily Star. And it's been bolstered by Beckham and Jay Z's habit of attending soccer games, like September's Paris Saint-Germain versus Barcelona match, together.

Oh, and another possibly telling tidbit... Becks even got a Hova quote, "Dream big, be unrealistic," tattooed on his deal-making hand.
