Raven-haired beauty Ivete Sangalo is the queen of Brazilian Carnaval. She made her break with the group Banda EVA before exploding as a solo act in 1999. A native of Bahia, Brazil's seductive and sweltering northern state, she is known to draw crowds in the thousands to see her shows. Every year the entire country awaits her hit Carnaval song and ends up singing it almost mechanically as her electric voice permeates daily life through radios, cafés, and nightclubs. Fireworks, smoke, and acrobatics — nothing is too flamboyant for one of her live shows. The chance to catch Ivete outside her home country is quite rare, and the hefty ticket price is definitely indicative of the importance of this stop along her international tour. Ivete is the soundtrack to Brazilian party life.
