Into the Night

Cheers (2490 SW Seventeenth Ave., 857-0041), the lesbian club turned punk emporium and more, turns two this weekend with enough anniversary events to choke a pig. Tonight (Thursday) Cheers does what it does best -- put on a punk show. Beginning at 8:00 homegrown talents Level 9, Against All Authority, Denny's Unit, and Out of Focus take the stage. On Friday Cheers goes cheerful with Miami's happiest band the Goods performing along with rock and rollers Orgasmic Bliss and Y. It's party time on Saturday, when club kids pack it in for the Lab Rave, an interactive dance party with DJs galore spinning house, jungle, and techno beats. All the events are all ages, and cover charge for the fantasy fest is only five dollars. But why stop there? After Cheers -- or wherever you happen to be in the very wee hours -- head north to the Edge (200 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, 954-525-9333) where Verbatim, another rave of even more mammoth proportions, rolls in at about 3:00 a.m. -- that's right, kiddies, the party begins at 3:00 a.m. -- with a passel of DJs from above and beyond, including DJ Icey, Baby Anne, Friction and Spice, Sharpe, Instant Karma, Debo, Jefe, Sandy. Admission is $13; backpack-clad ravers of any age can join the all-night party. But it just might be too much to handle for us regular folk.

Thursday
Marlin Bar, "Ulypian Thursday." DJ Snowhite quietly rocks the crowd as locals and tourists alike try to revive the art of stimulating conversation. 1200 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, 673-8770.

Tobacco Road, "The Beast and Baker." Rockin' local music in a down-to-earth setting. Tonight the Curious Hair and the Avenging Lawnmowers of Justice open for Jolynn Daniel and the Grey Area upstairs; Louie Archambeaux rocks downstairs with his own brand of jazz and blues. 626 S.
