If you thought Phoenix dubstep duo UltraBlack's minimal moniker was some kind of warning scream against the sleek and opulent evils of future technology, you were wrong. Truth is, Bryan Marek and Nick Suddarth make dark party tracks that, perversely, seem to revel in the debauched potentialities of a not-so-distant dystopia where anatomically correct, true-skin robots freely undress one another in the streets. With the deep thump and heavy grind of recent cuts like "Invaders," "Freeze," and "Dirty Dirty," it's almost as if UltraBlack's saying: "Yeah, the world's ending. But rubber asses, alloy exoskeletons, and artificial intelligence are sexy, too."
True, we humans aren't a doomed race quite yet. But, speaking figuratively, the darkest days are down the hall and those hot robot replicants are getting naked in the other room ... So why not start the apocalypse party this Saturday when UltraBlack hit up the monthly dubstep fest Get Low. Do it before the machines make you their bitch.
