Fiona Apple's Sister and Cabaret Singer Extraordinaire Maude Maggart Plays Colony Hotel, Palm Beach on June 12 and 13

Fiona Apple has an older sister, Maude Maggart. And she's kind of a big deal on the cabaret circuit. Drawing praise from most major media outlets such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR and Entertainment Weekly, Maggart has gained a following for her haunting and exquisite renditions and interpretations of works by Irving Berlin, Vernon Duke, and Harold Arlen. On her first album Look for the Silver Lining she concentrated on songs from the 1920s, but on later albums, she has diversified her focus. She likes to develop themes to go with her shows and, according to NPR, takes her audience on a journey in time. For instance during one show, she focused on Depression-era songs from the 1930s, and during another, performed love songs from the swing era. The latter was a tribute to her grandparents, who were performers also and who met while touring with Johnny Hamp and His Orchestra. However, Maggart won't just make you nostalgic for the jazz age. She grew up in a household that appreciated a wide range of music: everything from the Grateful Dead to Laura Nyro. Expect to hear some renditions of Folk icon Joan Baez and singer/songwriter Jason Browne.
