Feliz Valentine! José Feliciano Coming to Miami on February 14

For years, retailers have made a fortune off love-stricken individuals who feel obligated to spend copious amounts of money on stuffed bears, heart-shaped boxes of crappy chocolate-covered cherries, sappy holiday cards, and dinner for two at underwhelming (albeit overpriced) restaurants, all in the name of Valentine's Day.

But this year, it's different.

Rather than dropping serious coinage on forgettable mementos and lackluster dinning experiences, true lovebirds will flock to Flagler Street for an intimate evening with Grammy Award-winning guitar virtuoso José Feliciano.

Before the 67-year-old musician embarks on the Filipino leg of his 2013 world tour, Puerto Rico's favorite son will perform at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium on Thursday, February 14, AKA Valentine's Day. And he's certainly feeling the love.

In December, the recently formed Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame announced that Feliciano and five others would become the organization's fist inductees.

"[I'm] honored to be inducted into the Latin Songwriter's Hall of Fame," Feliciano said on his official Facebook page. "Thank you."

"As opposed to an awards show that celebrates the hit of that season or that year, we're celebrating a lifetime of achievement," LSHOF founder Desmond Child recently told The Miami Herald. "Our award is more like the Nobel Prize of Latin songwriting. Once they're inducted, they're in forever."

José Feliciano. Thursday, February 14. Miami-Dade County Auditorium, 2901 W. Flagler Street, Miami. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. and tickets cost $55 to $87 plus fees via ticketmaster.com. Call 305-547-5414 or visit miamidade.gov.
