Two months ago, erudite Englishman, ex-punk, and eyewear enthusiast Elvis Costello was forced to postpone his globe-spanning Spectacular Spinning Songbook tour, including a South Florida show, "due to matters pertaining to the very serious illness of a close family member."

At the time, Costello's camp was secretive about the identity of Elvis's ill loved one. But it's since been revealed that the singer-songwriter's dad is the "close family member" who's been struggling with "very serious illness."

And today, despite just canceling a whole string of European owing to the "grave deterioration of his father's health and the need to return to England without delay," Costello has announced rescheduled dates for his previously postponed shows in Hollywood, Jacksonville, and North Carolina.

Originally slated to sweep into South Florida in September, The Spectacular Spinning Songbook tour will now land at Hard Rock Live near the end of April 2012.

Elvis Costello's 2012 Southeastern US Tour Dates

April 25 Hard Rock Live, Hollywood

April 27 Florida Theatre Jacksonville, Jacksonville

April 29 Durham Performing Arts Center, Durham, NC

Starring Elvis, backing band the Imposters, and the Songbook Wheel, this traveling roadshow is a musical extravaganza that sort of seems like a vaudevillian version of The Price Is Right.

The hypemen are describing The Spectacular Spinning Songbook tour as a "unique and colorful carnival-style stage show [that] invites select fans to join Costello on-stage to spin the Songbook Wheel featuring a collection of 40 banners including hits, rarities and a few surprises. This interactive and entertaining experience ensures a new set at each performance."

For his part, though, Elvis would probably just say it's a fucking whirlingly awesome time that sometimes results in spontaneous marriage proposals.
