Some people go to the club expecting cheap, vapid entertainment. You know, Top 40 sing-alongs they can remember the lyrics to even after that sixth vodka and Red Bull.

But others go to the club expecting a musical education. And underground house and techno lovers looking to get schooled couldn't find a better teacher than DJ Three, AKA Christopher Milo.

As a veteran of the American underground scene who's been DJing since the rave '90s, his sets offer a virtual time machine trip through the past, present, and future of electronic dance music. You can expect plenty of obscure old gems alongside some of the most cutting-edge new cuts, including bombs released on Milo's own Hallucination Limited imprint.

"Dropping vintage sounds or old records, for me, is not about throwback nostalgia," Milo told us back in 2011. "I mean, dropping a beloved classic now and again is, of course, a wonderful thing to do, [but] it's about working them in the middle of the newest and most contemporary music in a way that's symbiotic. That makes it all about the present moment at hand."

Leave it to underground EDM ambassadors Un_Mute to book DJ Three in the big room of newly opened downtown hotspot Therapy this Friday. You can catch him there along a couple fellow heavyweights, JPLS of Minus fame and the Mobilee label's Safeword.

Leave your expectations at home and bring an open mind.

DJ Three. Presented by Un_Mute. Friday, May 10. Therapy Miami, 60 NE 11th St., Miami. The party starts at 11:45 p.m. and tickets cost $10 plus fees via wantickets.com. Ages 21 and up. Call or visit clubtherapymiami.com.
