The architecture in Helsinki, Finland, is world-renowned. The city's neoclassical structures and Art Nouveau buildings have been celebrated for their architecturally functional design and aesthetic appeal.

Naturally, when the members of an indie outfit from Fitzroy, Australia, needed a name that would capture their collective brand of stylishly synthesized pop music, they chose Architecture in Helsinki.

On November 11, the quintet from Down Under's tour lands at Grand Central. The Aussie band will be joined by Dom and Lo-Fi-Funk, continuing the Downtown venue's streak of incredibly solid bookings.

For 11 years, Architecture in Helsinki has turned out brilliantly crafted pop music with an aura of sweet youthfulness that's second to none. Like the city its named after, the group effortlessly blends classical and new, incorporating a variety of instruments ranging from glockenspiel to Roland keyboards.

Earlier this year, the band released Moment Bends, its fourth studio album. Per usual, Architecture delivered an incredibly catchy 40-minute batch of brainy pop-rock. We said the record's first single, "Contact High," was "perhaps the most carefully constructed pop song not written by Swedish music producers for Katy Perry," a declaration we proudly stand by.

The Moment Bends track "Escapee," however, was totally written for video games. It appears on EA Sports' FIFA Soccer 12, a natural fit for a franchise that always deliver killer soundtracks.

Architecture in Helsinki with Dom and Lo-Fi-Fnk. Friday, November 11. Grand Central, 697 N. Miami Ave., Miami. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets cost $10 via fla.vor.us. All ages. Call 305-377-2277 or visit grandcentralmiami.com.
