After 36 million deaths, humans are still living under AIDS’ reign of terror. Luckily, care, compassion, and research have gone a long way, and the prognosis isn’t as bleak as it once was. If you want to continue showing this shitty disease who’s boss, participate in the 26th-annual AIDS Walk Miami.
The 5K walkathon benefits Care Resource, a nonprofit, community-based AIDS service organization that provides a host of care and outreach services to more than 15,000 South Floridians living with HIV/AIDS.
Grand-marshalled by The Real Housewives of Miami star Alexia Echevarria and emceed by Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine, the event promises an afternoon of fresh air, fabulousness, and good karma. Run, walk, or skip to the finish line; then party with your fellow philanthropists at Miami Beach Botanical Garden, where there’ll be music, massages, and rescue pets.
Registration, which costs $25, begins Sunday at 8 a.m., and the walk kicks off at 9 at the Miami Beach Convention Center (1901 Convention Center Dr., Miami Beach). Visit aidswalkmiami.org.
