If you're like most people, you probably wouldnt like it if you were driving your car around a tight corner and you started going sideways, especially if there were another car beside you, also moving sideways, and going really, really fast. But most people don't have the guts or the skill to do the things with their car that the people who belong to the Formula and Automobile Racing Association (FARA) do, whether that means driving around the track in one of their championship races or competing in the drifting competitions, in which cars drift sideways like in the otherwise forgettable sequel to The Fast and Furious.
This weekend, FARA will take over Homestead Miami Speedway. Saturday will feature a high-performance driving school for beginners or advanced racers (bring your own car), and Sunday will offer just about everything a car junkie could want: several races, a car show, the drifting show, a motorcycle trick show, a hydraulic competition, and, yes, a bikini contest. Tickets cost 10 bucks for adults; kids 12 and under get in free. For the race schedule, check out www.farausa.com.
