If only we'd been told as teenagers that drinking cough syrup, playing videogames, and listening to Appetite for Destruction could turn us into art stars, we might have ended up like Cory Arcangel. (OK, so maybe we are leaving out certain mitigating factors, such as talent, imagination, and an Oberlin arts education.) Instead, we've become unaccomplished adults who drink cough syrup, play videogames, and listen to Appetite for Destruction.

This Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., we can all meet Arcangel at the Museum of Contemporary Art and check out his new exhibition, "The Sharper Image," running through May 9. It features pseudo-sedative states, hacked PlayStations, and split-screen video images of Slash and Axl. MOCA describes him as "a pioneer in the use of digital technologies in contemporary art." But we prefer to call Arcangel an inspiration to artists, addicts, gamers, and metalheads who've yet to earn themselves solo shows.
